Warning! Do not use gasoline that has methyl alcohol added. Failure to do so may result in damage to the fuel system, engine and/or other equipment.
Gasoline containing methyl tributyl ether MTBE (METHYL TERTIARY BUTYL ETHER): Gasoline blends with MTBE contain no more than 15% MTBE. Blends of gasoline and MTBE can be used in your motorcycle.
ETHANOL gasoline grade is a mixture of 10% ethyl alcohol (grain alcohol) and 90% gasoline without lead additives. Mixtures of gasoline and ethyl alcohol can be used in your motorcycle if the ethyl alcohol content does not exceed 10%.
REFORMED OR OXYGEN-ENRICHED GASOLINE (RFG): Reformulated gasoline is gasoline that is specially formulated to burn more completely (compared to other types of gasoline) - it leaves behind less exhaust gases. In addition, its formula ensures less fumes when you pour it into the gas tank. Reformulated gasoline uses additives that saturate the gas with oxygen. Your motorcycle will run fine on this gas mixture, and Harley-Davidson recommends using this grade of gasoline whenever possible to help improve the environment.
Certain grades of gasoline may adversely affect the starting, maneuverability, and fuel efficiency of your motorcycle. If you experience any problems of this type in practice, try using a different brand of gasoline or gasoline with a higher octane number.
Fuel
See Table 16. Always use good quality gasoline without lead additives. Octane numbers are usually written on the pump.
Warning! Be careful not to spill gasoline. Slowly unscrew the gas cap and remove it. Do not pour gasoline above the bottom of the gas filler neck insert; leave room for the fuel to expand. After filling the gas tank with gasoline, screw the gas cap tightly. Gasoline is extremely flammable and explodes, causing serious injury or death.
Warning! Be careful when refueling. The air remaining in the gas tank, under pressure, can forcefully throw gasoline through the gas tank filling pipe. Gasoline is extremely flammable and explodes, causing serious injury or death.
Modern gas station pumps pressurize gasoline into the motorcycle's gas tank, so there is a high chance that pressurized air will remain in the gas tank.
