Aprilia 750 Shiver

The SL Shiver 750 is a motorcycle produced by the Italian brand Aprilia from 2007 to 2016. It takes its name from a prototype presented in 1995 and powered by a 750 cc V-twin engine. It falls into the category of naked bike. It is the first mid-range model of the brand built since its acquisition by the Piaggio Group. It was presented at the EICMA show in Milan in 2006, at the same time as the NA 850 Mana.

The engine was entirely designed by Aprilia. With a displacement of 750 cc, it develops 95 hp and offers a torque of 8.35 kg m on this model. It is a 90° V-twin, four-stroke, four-valve per cylinder engine with double overhead camshafts.

The Shiver is the first motorcycle in its category to benefit from an electronic throttle control system called "Ride-By-Wire", replacing the cable control. The rotation of the throttle grip is interpreted by a computer, which in turn operates the injection throttle bodies. The parameters taken into account are: the throttle grip, temperature, atmospheric pressure, air humidity, and gear engaged. Initially criticized by the specialized press for being too harsh, this system had to be corrected by Italian engineers for a quicker and smoother engine response when twisting the throttle.

The front brake calipers have a radial mounting. The exhaust pipe is made of stainless steel, of the 2-1-2 catalyzed type. It complies with Euro 3 standards.

In December 2007, an update of the Ride-By-Wire system was available at dealerships to correct difficult starts, increase mid-range torque, and improve acceleration.

In February 2008, a new presentation was organized for the press. It now offers a handlebar-mounted triple adjustable mapping system, already available on the Mana.
  • Sport Mode: includes the previous update, all power and torque are available.
  • Touring Mode: provides smoother performance at low and mid-range speeds.
  • Rain Mode: reduces torque and power by approximately 35% for slippery conditions.

In 2009, a version equipped with ABS arrived: the Shiver GT. Three colors were removed from the catalog and two new ones were offered (Fluo Red and Solaris Yellow). The gold frame is no longer offered.

In 2010, a new version arrived with a front fairing, redesigned radiator scoops, "petal" brake discs, and new colors. It also included an update to the Ride-By-Wire system for better response, a stiffer front fork, removal of the warning lights, and rear stand spools. The initial flaws were corrected: revised seat height (adjustable shock absorber and redesigned seat), and redesigned passenger handles.

Aprilia 900 Shiver

The Aprilia Shiver 900 is an unfaired motorcycle from the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia. The Naked Bike has a twin-cylinder engine and was produced from 2017 to 2020.

The main competitors of this motorcycle are Suzuki GSX-S750, Kawasaki Z900, Triumph Street Triple, Ducati Monster 797 and 821, Yamaha MT-09, BMW F800R and even KTM 690 Duke R.

First introduced at EICMA 2016, the Shiver 900 succeeds the Shiver 750. While the exterior appearance of the Shiver 900 closely resembles its predecessor, it differs functionally, especially with more displacement, a combination instrument with a TFT color display, and Bluetooth support. Additionally, the engine complies with the Euro 4 emission standard.

The water-cooled 90° V2 four-stroke engine has a maximum power of 95 hp (70 kW) at 8750 rpm and a maximum torque of 90 Nm at 6500 rpm.

The chassis consists of a steel trellis frame with bolted aluminum profiles and a bolted rear frame. The front wheel is guided by an adjustable upside-down fork from Kayaba with preload and rebound adjustment. The rear wheel guidance consists of an aluminum double-sided swingarm with a hydraulic Sachs monoshock, whose preload and rebound are also adjustable.

For safety, a Continental 2-channel ABS and a three-stage adjustable traction control (ATC — Aprilia Traction Control) contribute. Both systems can be deactivated.

Furthermore, there is the option to choose between three different riding modes: S-Sport, T-Touring, and R-Rain.

With the 2019 model year, the revised version "Shiver 900 NAVI" was introduced, which includes the Aprilia-MIA system as standard, providing a navigation solution. To use the navigation, a smartphone must be paired with the corresponding Aprilia-V4-MP app. Production was discontinued at the end of 2020 due to the Euro 5 emission standard coming into effect in 2021.
