Warning! Failure to comply with required inspections or improper maintenance increases the likelihood of an accident or equipment damage. If any malfunctions are detected, do not drive the motorcycle. If you cannot correct the problem using the instructions in this manual, take the motorcycle to an authorized Yamaha dealer to have it inspected.
Before operating the motorcycle, inspect the elements shown in the table.

Fuel | • Check the fuel level in the fuel tank. • If necessary, add the recommended type of fuel. • Check fuel lines for leaks. |

Coolant | • Check the coolant level in the expansion tank. • If necessary, add recommended coolant to the specified level. • Check the engine cooling system for leaks. |
Front brake | • Check functionality. • If the drive is too light or «cotton», have your Yamaha dealer bleed the hydraulic system. • Check the brake pads for wear. • Replace them if necessary. • Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank. • If necessary, add the recommended brake fluid to the specified level. • Check the hydraulic system for leaks. |
Rear brake | • Check functionality. • If the drive is too light or «cotton», have your Yamaha dealer bleed the hydraulic system. • Check the brake pads for wear. • Replace them if necessary. • Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. • If necessary, add the recommended brake fluid to the specified level. • Check the hydraulic system for leaks. |
Clutch | • Check functionality. • If necessary, lubricate the cable. • Check the free play of the lever. • Adjust as necessary. |
Accelerator handle | • Ensure smooth operation. • Check the free play of the cable. • If necessary, have your Yamaha dealer adjust the cable free play and lubricant «shirts» cables and handles. |
Control cables | • Ensure smooth operation. • Lubricate if necessary. |
Drive chain | • Check the chain slack. • If necessary, adjust the sag. • Check the condition of the circuit. • If necessary, lubricate the chain. |
Wheels and tires | • Check the wheels for damage. • Check tire condition and tread depth. • Check the air pressure. • If necessary, bring the pressure back to normal. |
Brake and gear shift pedals | • Ensure smooth operation. • If necessary, lubricate the pedal rotation axes. |
Brake and clutch levers | • Ensure smooth operation. • If necessary, lubricate the rotation axes of the levers. |
Central and side support posts | • Ensure smooth operation. • If necessary, lubricate the rotation axes of the levers. |
Chassis fasteners | • Make sure all nuts, bolts and screws are properly tightened. • Tighten if necessary. |
Lights, switches and instrumentation | • Check for correct operation. • If necessary, correct the problem. |
Side support switch | • Check that the ignition circuit cut-off system is operating correctly. • If the system does not operate correctly, have your motorcycle checked by a Yamaha dealer. |
