- Neutral gear engaged.
- Any gear is on (except neutral), the clutch is depressed and the side support is raised.

1. Turn the ignition key to position «ON» (On) and make sure that the engine stop switch is set to position 0.
The following indicators and warning lights should illuminate for a few seconds and then go off.
- Engine oil level warning light
- Coolant temperature warning light
- Engine malfunction warning light
- Anti-lock brake system warning light
- Immobilizer warning light
Warning! If any indicator or warning light does not go off after a few seconds of illumination, check page 3-4 procedure for testing the appropriate indicator or warning light circuit.
2. Engage neutral gear (see page 5-2) When the transmission is in neutral, the neutral indicator should light up. If the indicator does not light, have your Yamaha dealer check the electrical circuit.
3. Press the starter button to start the engine.
Warning! To prolong engine life, never accelerate a cold engine to high speeds.
If the engine fails to start, release the starter button, wait a few seconds and then try again. Each starting attempt should be as short as possible to preserve battery charge. Do not crank the engine with the starter for more than 10 seconds per attempt.
