Adjusting drive chain tension (Ducati Monster 696)

While turning the wheel, determine the place of greatest tension. Place the motorcycle on a side stand. Press the center of the bottom of the chain with your finger to determine the distance between the reference line connecting the centers of the chain link pins and the aluminum suspension arm. It should be within 46-48 mm. (pic. 98).



To adjust the tension, loosen the axle nut (1, fig. 99). Even rotation of the adjusting nuts (2) The desired chain tension is set on both sides of the lever. The nuts are unscrewed to tighten the chain and screwed in to loosen. In the latter case, it is necessary to further push the wheel forward.

Important. To adjust the chain tension, contact your Ducati dealer or authorized service center.

Important. Incorrect adjustment of chain tension leads to accelerated wear of transmission parts.

Check that the marks on the lever on both sides match each other. This will mean that the wheel is not warped.

Lubricate the threads of the axle nuts (1) SHELL Retinax HDX2 lubricant and tighten to 72 Nm.

Lubricate the threads of the adjusting screws (2) SHELL Alvania R3 grease and tighten to 8 Nm.

Attention! Incorrect tightening of axle bolts on swing arm 1 (Fig.99) affects the safety of the driver and passenger.
