Assigning a wireless remote control to a system
See Figure 15. Wireless control keys are electronically assigned by your Harley-Davidson dealer to the Intelligent Security System so that the system module recognizes the unique signal transmitted by the key fob. Only two key fobs can be assigned to a system module at the same time.
Figure 15. Key Fob: Intelligent Security System
Replacement fobs can be purchased from your dealer's service center but must only be assigned to your motorcycle by a qualified Harley-Davidson trained technician.
Notes:
- There is a label on the key fob packaging that shows the serial number of the key fob. For future reference, peel off the label and place it on one of the NOTES pages included in the instruction manual.
- The serial number of the key fob is also shown inside the key fob body. See section HARLEY-DAVIDSON Intelligent Security System, key fob battery.
- The module will only turn on if a key fob has been assigned to it by a Harley-Davidson dealer and a personal identification number PIN has been entered into the system (Personal Identification Number). Write down the PIN number on the recording page found at the front of this instruction manual and on the card you insert into your wallet.
- If the driver loses the control key fob or the key fob fails, the PIN stored on the card inserted into the wallet must be used to manually turn off the system. See section Turning on and off and section Troubleshooting.
- The driver can change the PIN code at any time. See section Personal identification number PIN.
Driving a motorcycle with a key fob
When driving a motorcycle, loading cargo on it, refueling the motorcycle, parking, servicing or in motion, always have the key fob with you. Carry the keychain in a regular clothing pocket.
Do not leave the key fob on your handlebars or store it in your saddlebag or Tour-Pak® rack. If you accidentally leave the key fob on a parked motorcycle, the system will not be able to activate the alarm.
When driving a motorcycle, do not place the key fob in a metal container, and do not bring the key fob closer than 3 inches to a cell phone, PDA, display, or other electronic device (76 mm). When exposed to any electromagnetic interference, the key fob may stop disabling the security system.
To increase safety when parking, always lock the motorcycle's plug and remove the ignition key. If the key fob is within range and the motorcycle is unlocked, then the alarm will not go off in case of malicious actions.
