Remove the rear wheel as described in "Removing the rear wheel".
Remove the vertical cylinder exhaust pipe as described in "Removing the exhaust system".
Unscrew the pivot bolt (1) from the bottom of the tie rod and the bottom fixing of the monoshock.
Lower the swinging arm. Recover the threaded bush (2) and the bushes (3) of the tie rod ball joint.
Loosen the bolts (4) of the swinging arm pivot shaft clamps; loosen the bolts on both sides.
Remove the plugs (5) from the sides of the swinging arm.
To remove the pivot shaft, remove at least one of the outer circlips.
Using a suitable drift, drive the pivot shaft out until the swinging arm is released from its mounting on the engine.
Remove the swinging arm.
Check the distortion of the pivot shaft using a dial gauge.
Place the pivot shaft on two reference blocks of the same size.
Rotate the shaft and move the dial gauge horizontally.
Measure the distortion value. Service limit: 0.3 mm/0.012 in.
Inspect the disassembled parts.
Check the wear of the roller bearings (A) and the seals (B) on the swinging arm pivot shaft.
At reassembly, check that all parts are assembled in the order shown. Grease the bearing seats and the seal rims with the recommended grease.
If you are changing the swinging arm or the engine, you must also check the axial play of the arm. Proceed as follows:
Fit a 1.8 mm shim (C) to each side of the engine.
Press the left arm of the swinging arm against the engine so that the chain is correctly aligned. Using a feeler gauge or calibrated shims, measure the play on the other side of the engine.
Permitted side play: 0.1 mm/0.004 in.
If it is difficult to insert a 0.10 mm feeler or shim, do not add further shims. If the play is greater, shim to the permitted clearance; shims for this purpose are available in 0.20 and 0.10 mm sizes.
Example:
gap measured (mm/in.) | LH shim | RH shim |
0.10/0.004 | - | n° 1 of 0.10 mm |
0.20/0.008 | n° 1 of 0.10 mm | n° 1 of 0.10 mm |
0.30/0.012 | n° 1 of 0.10 mm | n° 1 of 0.20 mm |
Caution! Fit the larger shim pack on the right-hand side of the swinging arm.
