Carefully inspect the engine block. Check, on a reference surface, that the surfaces of the crankcase halves are perfectly flat.
Check that the bearings and the bushes are in perfect condition. If you have to change the main bearings, they must be changed in pairs (see procedure in "Main bearings").
Check that the oilways are not clogged or obstructed.
