- Closing the crankcase half
Before inserting the gearbox assembly in the left crankcase half, ensure that the inner raceway (A) of the bearing on the end of the primary shaft Is fitted in the bearing and has not remained on the end part of the primary shaft.
The same applies for the inner raceway (B) of the bearing on the end of the secondary shaft on the right crankcase half.
Install the gearbox shafts and the selector drum with the relative shims in the left crankcase half.
Fit the fork guide shafts and the gear selector forks.
Fit the timing shaft in the housing on the left crankcase half.
Before closing the crankcase halves, check that the shims have been fitted on the crankshaft, on the gearbox shafts and on the selector drum. Also check that the two reference bushes (C) have been inserted in their seats.
Apply the "THREE BOND" liquid seal, as described in "Seals".
Fit the connecting screws as shown in the diagram.
Tighten all the screws, following the numbered sequence shown in the diagram, at the specified torque values.
Refit the oil pressure adjustment valve with spring and tighten the screw (E) at the specified torque value using medium-strength threadlocker.
Check that the crankshaft rotates with a certain amount of interference on the main bearings.
Check that the gearbox shafts have an axial clearance of 0.25 mm/ 0.0098 in. If not, adjust with shims (see "Gearbox overhaul").
Ensure that all fitted parts can rotate or move correctly.
Install the ball bearing, the spring and the seal of the gearbox selector, then tighten the screw at the specified torque value.

Note. When the crankshaft is inserted in the crankcase half, ensure that the connecting rods are correctly positioned in the respective cylinder housings. Incorrect positioning will inevitably lead to reopening of the crankcase halves.
