Prepare
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. See Power disconnect.
2. Remove exhaust system. See Exhaust system.
Remove
1. See Figure 8-5. Remove starter cable.
- a. Remove cover (3).
- b. Remove locknut (5).
- c. Remove starter cable (4).
2. Remove starter.
- a. Remove screws (6).
- b. Remove starter (1).
- c. Discard O-ring (2).
Install

| Starter terminal nut | 6.0-10.0 Nm | 54-88 in·lbs |
1. See Figure 8-5. Install starter.
- a. Lubricate new O-ring (2) with SPECIAL PURPOSE GREASE.
- b. Install new O-ring (2).
- c. Install starter (1).
- d. Install screws (6). Tighten to 10.0-12.0 Nm (89-106 in·lbs).
2. Install starter cable.
- a. Install starter cable (4). Position starter cable angled down as shown.
- b. Install locknut (5). Tighten to 6.0-10.0 Nm (54-88 in·lbs).
- c. Install cover (3).
