Proceed as follows:
Remove the lower right fairing as described in "Removing the lower fairings" in the section "Frame".
Undo the screw (1) that attaches the upper right fairing to the frame.
Slacken the screw (2) of the upper battery bracket.
Gently push down the end of the lower battery support just enough to allow you to slide the battery out. Proceed to charging the battery, as follows:
Remove the gummed tape and the caps of the cells.
Disconnect the original blind vent pipe and connect the vent pipe supplied with the battery.
Fill the cells up to the Max level line with a solution of sulphuric acid and distilled water with a density of 1.26 for temperate climates or 1.24 for tropical climates.
Allow the battery to rest for approximately half an hour and then begin charging at a voltage of one tenth of the battery's capacity for approximately 10-12 hours. If necessary, top up with distilled water if the level drops.
Note. To check the charging current, use the "MATHESIS" tester.
When the electrolyte begins to bubble and its density is as specified below, this indicates that the battery is fully charged.
When the battery is fully charged, the density of the electrolyte at a temperature of 25°C/77°F must be approximately 1.28 and the voltage measured across the terminals should be 12.6 Volt.
Electrolyte density and battery voltage should remain unchanged for at least three readings taken over a period of two hours.
Overcharging will cause the plates to bend, the active material to separate from the plates and one or more cells to short circuit.
If a cell does not bubble or bubbles later than the other cells, this indicates that the cell is short circuiting.
Refitting
Apply protective spray for electrical contacts on the battery terminals and cable contacts.
Fit the red cable contact to the battery positive terminal and secure it in place with the screw (3) and nut provided.
Place the battery under the upper bracket and push the end of the lower bracket down gently.
Tighten the screw (2) on the bracket.
Fit the black cable contact to the battery negative terminal and secure it in place with the screw (4) and nut provided.
Connect the vent pipe provided to the battery fitting and feed it through the cableways (5) on the engine. Cut it so that it is the same length as the fuel tank breather pipe (6) and strap it to the breather pipe with a cable tie.
Refit the lower fairing and tighten the screw (3).
