Warning! The automatic headlight function makes the rider more visible to other drivers. Make sure the headlight is always on. If a motorcyclist is not clearly visible to other drivers, this can result in serious injury or death.
Read the OPERATING MANUAL FOR YOUR MOTORCYCLE section at the beginning of this manual. Check that you have written down all the numbers on the cover page at the beginning of this book.
The headlight key switch controls the motorcycle's electrical components.
Warning! Install an anti-theft system on your motorcycle. After parking the motorcycle, lock the steering head and ignition switch. If you do not lock the ignition switch, your motorcycle may be stolen or broken.
Warning! Do not start the motorcycle engine if the forks are blocked. If the forks are locked, the motorcycle's wheels cannot rotate, and starting the engine in this condition could result in serious injury or death.
Warning! Do not lubricate the lock cylinder with lubricating oils containing fuel oil or graphite. Otherwise, the lock may stop working.
Warning! Before locking the ignition switch, set it to the OFF position. Leaving the ignition switch in the ACC position will cause the instrument lamps to illuminate, draining the battery.
A description of the functions of each switch position is given in Table 17.
1. See Figure 4. To remove the key from the ignition switch, set the switch to the OFF position.
Figure 4. Ignition Switch: VRSC Motorcycle Models: 1.Accessory position (additional devices); 2. OFF position (turned off); 3. Ignition position (ignition)
2. To remove the key from the ignition switch, pull the key up.
3. Always set the switch to the LOCK position and remove the key when you have finished using the motorcycle or if you leave the motorcycle parked.
Notes:
- Additional devices and motorcycle emergency stop indicators may be included. Dashboard lights are on. The brake light and horn can be activated. The ignition key can be removed from the lock.
- The motorcycle lights start to glow when the switch is in the IGN position (This is required by applicable law and certain local government regulations).
- Before operating your motorcycle, Harley-Davidson recommends that you remove the key from the ignition switch and unlock the motorcycle's forks. If the key is not removed, it may fall and get lost while driving.
- The ignition key also fits into the front fork lock.
