Free play inspection

Push the choke lever [A] all the way to the front.

Check choke cable free play [B].

O Determine the amount of choke cable play at the choke lever. Pull the choke lever until the starter plunger lever [C] at the carburetor touches the starter plunger [D]; the amount of choke lever lower end travel is the amount of choke cable play.

★ If the free play is incorrect, adjust the choke cable.

Choke cable free play standard: 2-3 mm

Free play adjustment

Loosen the locknut [A], and turn the adjuster [B] until the cable has the proper amount of free play.

Tighten the locknut securely.

Choke cable installation

Install the choke cable in accordance with the Cable, Wire, and Hose Routing section in General Information chapter.

After installation, adjust the cable properly.

Warning! Operation with an incorrectly routed or improperly adjusted cable could result in an unsafe riding condition.

Choke cable lubrication and inspection

Whenever the cable is removed, or in accordance with the Periodic Maintenance Chart, lubricate the choke cable (see General Lubrication).

Apply a thin coating of grease to the cable lower end.

Use a commercially available pressure cable lubricator to lubricate the cable.

With the cable disconnected at both ends, the cable should move freely in the cable housing.
