Prepare
1. Drain coolant to below thermostat housing level. See Coolant of cooling system.
2. Lift rear of fuel tank. See Lift rear of fuel tank.
3. Remove engine coolant temperature sensor. See Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.

Notes:
- Replace thermostat and housing as an assembly.
- See Figure 7-7. Pry overlap of clamps (4) to remove. If clamps must be cut, use a sharp high-quality wire cutter.
1. Remove thermostat housing.
- a. Remove clamps (4). Detach hoses from thermostat housing.
- b. Remove screws and washers (1, 2).
- c. Remove thermostat housing (3).

1. See Figure 7-7. Install thermostat housing.
- a. Install thermostat housing (3).
- b. Install screws and washers (1,2). Tighten to 9.0-11.0 Nm (80-97 in·lbs).
- c. Install hoses on thermostat housing. Install clamps with HOSE CLAMP PLIERS (Part No. HD-41137).

1. Install engine coolant temperature sensor. See Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
2. Fill system with coolant. See Coolant of cooling system.
