Preparatory work
- Remove left-hand side of engine spoiler.
- Remove right and left front footrest plates (it is not necessary to remove the brake and gearshift levers).
- Remove fasteners securing the exhaust system (it is not necessary to unplug the oxygen sensor).
Additional preparations for removing engine, gearbox or main frame
- Remove exhaust system.
- Remove rear wheel.
- Drain oil from rear wheel drive.
Warning: Note high release torque of lock ring and left/right threaded rings and bearing studs.
- Disconnect the rear ABS sensor and open the cable ties.
- Remove rear wheel drive unit.
- Remove swinging arm.
Removing and installing cross-tube
- Remove bearing screw (2) and remove gearshift linkage (1) from cross-tube.
- Raise the rear wheel slightly to relive the load and remove reaction strut (arrow) for rear wheel drive from cross-tube.
- Release 3 fasteners (3) on each side and remove cross-tube.
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
Tightening torques:
- Transverse tube to main frame — 41 Nm
- Reaction strut to cross-tube — 43 Nm
- Gearshift linkage to cross-tube — 9 Nm
- Footrest plates to frame — 21 Nm
