Attention! If the low fuel warning light comes on on the dashboard while driving (1), this means that there is still some fuel left. Refill as soon as possible.
Attention! When driving without passengers, make sure the passenger footrests are folded down.
Attention! Passengers must be instructed on the rules of conduct to avoid dangerous situations while driving. Before starting to move, make sure that the support is completely retracted to its original position.
To start moving:
- Start the engine.
- Adjust the correct position of the rear view mirrors.
Attention! Check the rearview mirrors while the vehicle is stationary. The reflective surface of the mirror has a curved shape, so the distance to objects may appear greater than it actually is. These mirrors provide a wide viewing angle and require experience to judge the distance to vehicles behind.
When the throttle is released (2) (pos. A), With the engine idling, fully depress the clutch handle (3).
Engage first gear by pressing the gear lever (4) down.
Release the brake handle (pressed while starting the engine).
Slowly release the clutch handle (3) and at the same time increase the speed slightly by turning the throttle slightly (2) (pos. IN).
The vehicle begins to move forward.
Drive at a limited speed for the first few kilometers to warm up the engine.
Attention! Do not exceed the maximum recommended engine speed.
Accelerate gradually by turning the throttle (2) (pos. IN), but not exceeding the recommended engine speed.
To engage second gear:
Attention! Act quickly. Avoid driving the vehicle at too low engine speeds.
Release the throttle (2) (pos. A), press the clutch handle (3), lift the gear shift lever (4), release the clutch handle (3) and add gas.
To change to higher gears, repeat the last two operations.
Attention!
- If the engine oil pressure icon is displayed and the general warning light is illuminated during normal engine operation, the engine oil pressure in the circuit is too low.
- In this case, switch off the engine and contact an authorized Aprilia dealer.
- In the following cases, you should change from a higher gear to a lower one (downshift).
When driving downhill and braking, using engine braking increases braking efficiency.
When driving uphill when the gear engaged does not match the speed (high gear, moderate speed) and the engine speed begins to drop.
Attention!
- Shift down one gear at a time; Shifting down several gears at once can result in exceeding the maximum permissible engine speed.
- To avoid exceeding the maximum permissible engine speed, slow down by releasing the throttle before downshifting.
Release the throttle (2) (pos. A)
If necessary, gently apply the brake levers and reduce speed.
To engage a lower gear, press the clutch handle (3) and lower the gearshift lever (4).
Release the brake levers if they have been applied.
Release the clutch handle (3) and add gas a little.
Attention!
- If the multifunction digital display displays an engine overheat alarm, stop the vehicle and run the engine at 3000 rpm for approximately 2 minutes to ensure a constant flow of coolant through the system; then set the engine stop button to position «OFF» and check the coolant level.
- If the temperature indicator continues to flash after checking the coolant level, contact an authorized Aprilia dealer.
- Do not place the ignition key in position «Key off», since this will turn off the cooling fans regardless of the coolant temperature, which will lead to a further increase in temperature.
- If the general warning light on the instrument panel comes on during normal engine operation, this means that something is wrong.
- In many cases the engine will continue to operate at reduced power; Contact your authorized Aprilia dealer immediately.
- To avoid overheating of the clutch, avoid running the engine with the clutch depressed and the gear engaged.
Attention!
- Using only the front or only the rear brake significantly reduces braking efficiency and can lead to wheel locking with reduced braking force.
- When stopping on an incline, fully release the gas and keep the vehicle stationary using the brakes only.
- Using the engine to hold the vehicle on a hill can cause the clutch to overheat.
- Continuous braking when driving downhill can lead to overheating of the friction lining and, as a result, poor braking.
- Take advantage of engine braking by changing gears and using the brakes as an alternative.
- When driving downhill, do not turn off the engine.
- When driving on wet or slippery surfaces (snow, ice, mud, etc.) Drive at a moderate speed and avoid sudden braking or maneuvering, which could cause you to lose traction and fall.
