Prepare
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. See Power disconnect.
2. Lift rear of fuel tank. See Lift rear of fuel tank.
3. Remove breather hoses. See Breather hoses.
Remove
1. See Figure 4-9. Remove cylinder head cover.
- a. Discard fasteners (2 through 4).
- b. Remove cylinder head cover (1).
- c. Discard gasket (5).

Install

Note: Verify that all mating and screw mounting surfaces are clean and dry before installation.
1. See Figure 4-9. Install cylinder head cover.
- a. Install cylinder head cover (1) and new gasket (5).
- b. Install new medium bolts (3).
- c. Install new long bolts (2).
- d. Install new short bolt (4).
- e. See Figure 4-9. Tighten cylinder head bolts in sequence shown to 10.0-12.0 Nm (89-106 in·lbs).

Disassemble
1. See Figure 4-11. Remove baffle plate.
- a. Remove screws (3).
- b. Remove baffle plate (2).
- c. Discard gasket (1).

Clean and inspect
1. Clean all parts.
- a. Clean baffle plate.
- b. Clean mating surfaces on cylinder head and cover.
- c. Clean screw mounting surfaces on cylinder head cover.
Assemble

1. See Figure 4-11. Install baffle plate.
- a. Install new gasket (1).
- b. Install baffle plate (2).
- c. Install screws (3). Tighten to 3.0-5.0 Nm (27-44 in·lbs).
Complete
1. Install breather hoses. See Breather hoses.
2. Secure rear of fuel tank. See Lift rear of fuel tank.
3. Connect negative battery cable. See Power disconnect.
