Operation



Main Oil Distribution



1. See Figure 4-1. Engine oil flows to:
  • a. Oil pickup (10).
  • b. Oil pump (11).
  • c. Oil filter (9).
  • d. Right main bearing (13), left main bearing (6) and oil passage (7).

2. Oil switch (8) senses oil pressure at oil passage (7).

Left Side Oil Distribution



1. Oil flows through left main bearing (6) to:
  • Crank pin (14).
  • Front piston cooling jet (5).
  • Rear cylinder cam shaft (2).

2. Oil flows through rear cylinder cam shaft (2) to:
  • a. Rear cylinder rocker arm shafts (1).
  • b. Drain oil flows through timing chain cavity to oil pan.

3. Oil flows through oil passage (7) to:
  • a. Transmission input shaft (12).
  • b. Input shaft gears and clutch.
  • c. Drain oil to oil pan.

Right Side Oil Distribution



1. Oil flows through right main bearing (13) to:
  • Crank pin (14).
  • Rear piston cooling jet (15).
  • Transmission output shaft (16).
  • Front cylinder cam shaft (4).

1. Oil flows through transmission output shaft (16) to: a. Output shaft gears.
  • b. Drain oil to oil pan.

2. Oil flows through front cylinder cam shaft (4) to:
  • a. Front cylinder rocker arm shafts (3).
  • b. Drain oil flows through timing chain cavity to oil pan.
