Prepare



1. Remove front belt guard. See Belt guards.

2. Disconnect negative battery cable. See Power disconnect.

3. Lift rear of fuel tank. See Lift rear of fuel tank.

4. Remove exhaust system. See Exhaust system.

5. Remove air cleaner assembly. See Air cleaner assembly.

6. Remove breather hoses. See Breather hoses.

7. Remove induction module. See Induction module.

8. Remove cylinder head covers. See Cylinder head covers.

9. Remove clutch cover. See Clutch cover.

10. Remove crankshaft gear. See Crankshaft gear.

11. Remove alternator. See Removing and installing alternator.

12. Remove cam sprocket and timing chain. See Camshaft sprocket and timing chain.

13. Remove cylinder head. See Cylinder heads.

Remove



1. See Figure 4-22. Remove slack side chain guide.
  • a. Remove shoulder bolt (1).
  • b. Remove slack side chain guide (2) through top of engine.

2. Remove tension side chain guide (3) through top of engine.

Install



FASTENERTORQUE VALUE
Shoulder bolt10.0-12.0 Nm89-106 in·lbs

1. See Figure 4-22. Install slack side chain guide.


  • a. Install slack side chain guide (2) through top of engine.
  • b. Install shoulder bolt (1). Tighten to 10.0-12.0 Nm (89-106 in·lbs).

2. Install tension side chain guide (3) through top of engine.

Clean and inspect



1. Clean all parts thoroughly.

2. Inspect chain guides for wear. Replace as necessary.

Complete



1. Install cylinder head. See Cylinder heads.

2. Install cam sprocket and timing chain. See Camshaft sprocket and timing chain.

3. Install alternator. See Removing and installing alternator.

4. Install crankshaft gear. See Crankshaft gear.

5. Install clutch cover. See Clutch cover.

6. Install cylinder head covers. See Cylinder head covers.

7. Install induction module. See Induction module.

8. Install breather hoses. See Breather hoses.

9. Install air cleaner assembly. See Air cleaner assembly.

10. Install exhaust system. See Exhaust system.

11. Secure rear of fuel tank. See Lift rear of fuel tank.

12. Connect negative battery cable. See Power disconnect.

13. Install front belt guard. See Belt guards.
