Disconnect and connect



Disconnect



1. See Figure A-26. Press the release button (2).

2. Pull the connector housings apart.

Connect



1. Align the connector housings.

2. Press the housings together until the connector clicks.

Remove terminal

1. See Figure A-27. Open secondary lock.
  • a. Lift latch (1) to free tab of secondary lock (2).
  • b. Repeat on the opposite latch.
  • c. Open the secondary lock.

2. Look in the terminal side of the connector (opposite the secondary lock). Note the cavity next to each terminal.

Note: When the tang is released, a click is heard.


3. Using TERMINAL EXTRACTOR (Part # B-50085), press the tang (7 or 8) in the housing away from the terminal to release the terminal.

4. Gently pull on wire to remove terminal.

Install terminal



Note: Cavity numbers are stamped into the secondary locks of connector housings.


1. Align terminal to the housing. Install the terminal into housing. Terminal will snap into place.

Notes:
  • The release button is always on the top of the connector.
  • Pin housing: Tangs are on the bottom of each cavity. The pin terminal slot (on the side opposite the crimp tails) must face the tang.
  • Socket housing: Tangs are on the top of each cavity. The socket terminal slot (on the same side as the crimp tails) must face the tang.


2. Gently pull wire to verify terminals are locked.

3. Close the secondary lock. When locked, the secondary lock tabs are engaged with connector latches.

For the correct terminal crimping procedure, refer to the instruction sheet provided with the AMP MULTI-LOCK CRIMPER (Part # HD-41609).

See Figure A-28. Inspect the wire core crimp (2) and insulation crimp (1). Distortion should be minimal.
