Warning: Before starting engine, be sure throttle control will snap back to idle position when released. A throttle control that prevents engine from automatically returning to idle can lead to loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00390a)
1. Twist on and then release throttle grip. If throttle does not return to closed (idle), inspect and adjust throttle cables.
2. Start engine.
3. Turn handlebar full left to full right. If engine speed changes, adjust throttle cables.
4. Turn engine off.
Adjust
1. See Figure 2-16. Remove boot (3) from cable adjusters (4).
2. Loosen jamnuts (5).
3. Turn cable adjusters to shorten cable housings to minimum length.
4. Point front wheel straight ahead.
5. Twist throttle grip (1) fully open.
6. Turn cable adjuster (4) on throttle cable (2) until throttle cam (8) touches throttle cam stop (9).
7. Release throttle grip.
8. Turn adjuster an extra one-half turn and tighten jamnut.
9. Turn handlebar full right.
10. Turn cable adjuster (4) on idle cable (6) until the idle cable housing is fully seated within the cable guide (7).
11. Twist and release throttle grip. If throttle does not return to closed (idle), turn idle adjuster to shorten sleeve until it does.
12. Tighten jamnuts.
13. Install rubber boot on control cable adjusters.
